This Sanskrit edition of the Moksopaya. It is a large philosophical text dealing with “the science of liberation”. Similar to the Yoga-vasistha in content, the Mokshopaya-shastra was likely its predecessor, said to contain 30,000 shlokas (metrical verses). One of the core philosophies of the texts teaches the non-existence of cognitive objects; while holding such a view leads to an attitude of dispassion towards worldly matters.

Verse 4.20.12

तथा चायमत्रापरो दृष्टान्तः । अकुर्वन्नपि श्वभ्रपतनं पुरुषश्शय्यासनगतोऽपि श्वभ्रपतनवासनावासिते चेतसि श्वभ्रपतनदुःखमनुभवति । अपरस्तु कुर्वन्नपि श्वभ्रपतनं परममुपशममुपगतवति मनसि शय्यासनसुखमनुभवति । एवमेकशय्यासनगतयोरेकश्श्वभ्रपतनस्याकर्ता कर्ता सम्पन्नः । द्वितीयश्श्वभ्रपतनस्य कर्ताप्यकर्ता सम्पन्नश्चित्तवशात् । तस्माद् यच्चित्तस्तन्मयो भवति पुरुष इति सिद्धान्तः ॥ १२ ॥
