The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 6.105.1

शिखिध्वज उवाच ।
एवं स्थिते महाभाग कथमुद्वेगमीदृशम् ।
लब्धवानसि देवोऽपि वद वेद्यविदां वर ॥ १ ॥

śikhidhvaja uvāca |
evaṃ sthite mahābhāga kathamudvegamīdṛśam |
labdhavānasi devo'pi vada vedyavidāṃ vara || 1 ||

Sikhidvaja said:—If such is the case, sir, that destiny over rules all events, why should you be sorry for aught that has befallen to you, knowing that you are a godson and knowing the knowable also.
