Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. दृष्ट्वा च त्वां विष्ठितं देवमार्गे शक्रार्कविष्णुप्रतिमप्रभावम् ।
अभ्युद्गतास्त्वां वयमद्य सर्वे तत्त्वं पाते तव जिज्ञासमानाः ॥ ९ ॥

dṛṣṭvā ca tvāṃ viṣṭhitaṃ devamārge śakrārkaviṣṇupratimaprabhāvam |
abhyudgatāstvāṃ vayamadya sarve tattvaṃ pāte tava jijñāsamānāḥ || 9 ||
