by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 17.27

अनुरूपा त्वं च प्रमदा प्रवरा माता स चैव पुरुषप्रवरो ।
पुत्रो भवान्तकरणो भगवां किं हायते तव नरेन्द्रवधू इति ॥ २७ ॥

anurūpā tvaṃ ca pramadā pravarā mātā sa caiva puruṣapravaro |
putro bhavāntakaraṇo bhagavāṃ kiṃ hāyate tava narendravadhū iti || 27 ||

“You are a worthy woman, supreme of mothers, as he, your son, is pre-eminent, he who ends existences, and is blessed. What more can you want, O queen?” (27)
