The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

अपश्यन्काष्ठरन्ध्रस्थवृषणाक्रमणं यथा ।
कीलोत्पाटी कपिर्दुःखमेतीदं हि तथा मनः ॥ ४१ ॥

apaśyankāṣṭharandhrasthavṛṣaṇākramaṇaṃ yathā |
kīlotpāṭī kapirduḥkhametīdaṃ hi tathā manaḥ || 41 ||

The mind of man is in the same plight as that of the foolish ape, which in striving to pull out the peg of a half split timber, lost its life by the smashing of its testes in the crevice.
