Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

तत्रापीह च हे देवि सर्वे कथमवस्थिताः ।
बहिरन्तश्च मुकुरे इवैते किं प्रचेतनाः ॥ १७ ॥

tatrāpīha ca he devi sarve kathamavasthitāḥ |
bahirantaśca mukure ivaite kiṃ pracetanāḥ || 17 ||

How is it then, O goddess! that they came to be placed in this place. I see them as Images situated within and without the mirror of my mind, and know not whether these be living beings.
