Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तस्य भीतस्वनं श्रुत्वा मा भैरिति धनंजयः ।
प्रत्युवाच मयं पार्थो जीवयन्निव भारत ॥ ३८ ॥

tasya bhītasvanaṃ śrutvā mā bhairiti dhanaṃjayaḥ |
pratyuvāca mayaṃ pārtho jīvayanniva bhārata || 38 ||
