Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. यदुक्तवान्पितुर्मह्यं मार्कण्डेयो महानृषिः ।
तदशेषेण ब्रुवतो मम राजर्षिसत्तम ।
त्वं निबोध न चाप्यत्र कर्तव्या ते विचारणा ॥ २ ॥

tadaśeṣeṇa bruvato mama rājarṣisattama |
