The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

तत्पूर्वमद्याश्रमदर्शनं मे यस्मादिमं धर्मविधिं न जाने ।
तस्माद्भवानर्हति भाषितुं मे यो निश्चयो यं प्रति वः प्रवृत्तः ॥ १२ ॥

tatpūrvamadyāśramadarśanaṃ me yasmādimaṃ dharmavidhiṃ na jāne |
tasmādbhavānarhati bhāṣituṃ me yo niścayo yaṃ prati vaḥ pravṛttaḥ || 12 ||

'Since this to-day is my first sight of a hermitage I do not understand this rule of penance; therefore will your honour kindly explain to me what resolve possesses each one of you.'
