Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 86.16

saced asti ūnaṃ kāmehi vayan te pūrayāmatha |
ko vā bhavantaṃ heṭheti vayan te dhārayāmatha |
bhavāṃ pitā vayaṃ putro mā govinda pravrajāhi || 16 ||

If aught is lacking to your pleasures, I will make it good. If there be a man who molests you, then will I support you. You, my lord, are my father, and I your son. Do not, Govinda, go forth. (16)
