This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 45.10

उपेन्ति यत्र बहवो स्रवन्तियो वृष्टि अनन्ता प्रपतन्ति सागरो ।
आवासभूतो च महर्द्धिकानां कथं तु उत्सर्यति धर्मशास्त्रं ॥ १० ॥

upenti yatra bahavo sravantiyo vṛṣṭi anantā prapatanti sāgaro |
āvāsabhūto ca maharddhikānāṃ kathaṃ tu utsaryati dharmaśāstraṃ || 10 ||

“Many streams flow into the ocean and ceaseless rain falls upon it. The ocean is the home of mighty beings. How can the law be annulled? (10)
