This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 17.65

वयम् अपि लक्षणकुशला दोषगुणां लक्षणैर् विजानाम ।
यदि न गुरु तव सुतन् ते पश्येम महापुरुषरूपं ॥ ६५ ॥

vayam api lakṣaṇakuśalā doṣaguṇāṃ lakṣaṇair vijānāma |
yadi na guru tava sutan te paśyema mahāpuruṣarūpaṃ || 65 ||

“For we, skilled in the science of signs can distinguish the defects from the excellencies by their marks. If it is not inconvenient for you we would see your son who bears the form of a Great Man (65)
