The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

मनः पुर्यष्टकं विद्धि सर्वकार्यैककारणम् ।
तदैव भेदैः कथितमन्यैः स्वाशयकल्पितैः ॥ ५५ ॥

manaḥ puryaṣṭakaṃ viddhi sarvakāryaikakāraṇam |
tadaiva bhedaiḥ kathitamanyaiḥ svāśayakalpitaiḥ || 55 ||

As it is the mirror only that can reflect an image, and no other stone; so it is the mind alone these as their octuple receptacle—puryashtaka, and which is the agent of all actions, and is termed by different names according to the views of different divine teachers.
