The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

आलोकेन विनश्यन्त्या स्फुरन्त्या तमसोन्तरे ।
कौशिकेक्षणधर्मिण्या चित्रमन्धीकृतं जगत् ॥ ५८ ॥

ālokena vinaśyantyā sphurantyā tamasontare |
kauśikekṣaṇadharmiṇyā citramandhīkṛtaṃ jagat || 58 ||

It is strange that a thing sparkling in darkness, and vanishing in day light, and mope-eyed as the moping owl, should thus keep the world in darkness.
