Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. मानाग्निहोत्रमुत मानमौनं मानेनाधीतमुत मानयज्ञः ।
एतानि चत्वार्यभयंकराणि भयं प्रयच्छन्त्ययथाकृतानि ॥ ३८ ॥

mānāgnihotramuta mānamaunaṃ mānenādhītamuta mānayajñaḥ |
etāni catvāryabhayaṃkarāṇi bhayaṃ prayacchantyayathākṛtāni || 38 ||
