The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 2.52

तत्ज्याज शस्त्रं विममर्श शास्त्रं शमं सिषेवे नियमं विषेहे ।
वशीव कञ्चिद्विषयं न भेजे पितेव सर्वान्विषयान् ददर्श ॥ ५२ ॥

tatjyāja śastraṃ vimamarśa śāstraṃ śamaṃ siṣeve niyamaṃ viṣehe |
vaśīva kañcidviṣayaṃ na bheje piteva sarvānviṣayān dadarśa || 52 ||

He laid aside weapons and pondered the Shastra, he practised perfect calm and underwent various observances, like a hermit he refused all objects of sense, he viewed all his kingdoms like a father.
