This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 78.33

अथ त्वय न जातु वीर अदत्त्व तव जननिये प्रथमभक्तं ।
फलमूलभोजनं वा तथ तुह्य विभोक्षणं भवतु ॥ ३३ ॥

atha tvaya na jātu vīra adattva tava jananiye prathamabhaktaṃ |
phalamūlabhojanaṃ vā tatha tuhya vibhokṣaṇaṃ bhavatu || 33 ||

“Forasmuch as, O valiant one, you did never eat your food of leaves and roots without first giving some to your mother, so will release be yours.” (33)
