This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 52.116

क्वचित् निशासु जलधरा गर्जन्ति प्रतिनन्दति व्यालगणा ।
+ + + भैरवकरा करोन्ति रूपाणि च बहूनि ॥ ११६ ॥

kvacit niśāsu jaladharā garjanti pratinandati vyālagaṇā |
+ + + bhairavakarā karonti rūpāṇi ca bahūni || 116 ||

Here by night the clouds rumble and the beasts of prey rejoice; there fear-inspiring things assume many a form. (116)
