This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 21.55

ततो देवता देवतां इत्य् अवोचत् न एषो ऽनुरूपो ममं वन्दमानो ।
प्रणामं च एषो यद्य् अन्यस्य कुर्यात् दृढं सप्तधा अस्य मूर्ध्नं फलेया इति ॥ ५५ ॥

tato devatā devatāṃ ity avocat na eṣo 'nurūpo mamaṃ vandamāno |
praṇāmaṃ ca eṣo yady anyasya kuryāt dṛḍhaṃ saptadhā asya mūrdhnaṃ phaleyā iti || 55 ||

Then the goddess said to another goddess, “It is not fitting that this child should worship me. And if he should make obeisance before another, that one’s head would assuredly be split in seven.” (55)
