[257.009]. dṛṣṭvā ca rājā mūlanikṛtta iva drumaḥ sarvaśarīreṇa sthavirapiṇḍolabharadvājasya pādayoḥ patitaḥ/
[257.010]. mukhatuṇḍakena ca pādāvanuparimārjya utthāya tau jānumaṇḍalau pṛthivītale pratiṣṭhāpya kṛtāñjaliḥ sthavirapiṇḍolabharadvājaṃ nirīkṣamāṇaḥ prarudannuvāca--

[258.024]. yadāpi mahārāja tvayā pūrvaṃ bālabhāvādbhagavato rājagṛhaṃ piṇḍāya praviṣṭasya saktuṃ dāsyāmīti pāṃśvañjalirbhagavataḥ pātre prakṣiptaḥ, rādhaguptena cānumoditam, tvaṃ na bhagavatā nirdiṣṭah--ayaṃ dārako varṣaśataparinirvṛtasya mama pāṭaliputre nagare aśoko nāma rājā bhaviṣyati caturbhāgacakravartī dhārmiko dharmarājā, yo me śarīradhātukaṃ vaistārikāṃ kariṣyati, caturaśītidharmarājikāsahasraṃ pratiṣṭhāpayiṣyati, ahaṃ tatkālaṃ tatraivāsīt/

[262.022]. mama bhavatu maraṇaṃ tu sthitasya dharme viśuddhabhāvasya/

[271.001]. [271] bhikṣavaḥ saṃśayajātāḥ sarvasaśayacchettāramāyuṣmantaṃ sthaviropaguptaṃ pṛcchanti--kiṃ kuṇālena karma kṛtam yasya karmaṇo vipākena nayanānyutpāṭitāni? sthavira uvāca--tena hyāyuṣmantaḥ śrūyatām--
[271.003]. bhūtapūrvamatīte'dhvani vārāṇasyāmanyatamo lubdhakaḥ/
[271.004]. sa himavantaṃ gatvā mṛgān praghātayati/
[271.005]. so'pareṇa samayena himavantaṃ gataḥ/
[271.005]. tatra pāśanipatitānyekasyāṃ guhāyāṃ praviṣṭānyāsāditāni/
[271.006]. tena vāgurayā sarve gṛhītāḥ/
[271.006]. tasya buddhirutpannā--yadi praghātayiṣyāmi, māṃsaḥ kledaṃmupayāsyati/
[271.007]. tena pañcānāṃ mṛgaśatānāṃ nayanātyutpāṭitāni//
[271.008]. kiṃ manyadhvamāyuṣmantah? yo'sau lubdhakaḥ, sa eṣa kuṇālaḥ/
[271.008]. yattatrānena bahūnāṃ mṛgaśatānāṃ nayanānyutpāṭitāni, tasya karmaṇo vipākena bahūni varṣaśatasahasrāṇi narakeṣu duḥkhamanubhūya tataḥ karmāvaśeṣeṇa pañca janmaśatāni tasya nayanānyutpāṭitāni//
[271.011]. kiṃ karma kṛtam yasya karmaṇo vipākenocce kule upapannaḥ, prasādikaśca saṃvṛttaḥ, satyadarśanaṃ ca kṛtam?
[271.013]. tena hyāyucmantaḥ śrūyatām--bhūtapūrvamatīte'dhvani catvāriṃśadvarṣasahasrāyuṣi prajāyāṃ krakucchando nāma samyaksambuddho loka udapādi/
[271.014]. yadā krakucchandaḥ samyaksambuddhaḥ sakalaṃ buddhakāryaṃ kṛtvā nirupadhiśeṣe nirvāṇadhātau parinirvṛtaḥ, tasya aśokena rājñā catūratnamayaṃ stūpaṃ kāritam/
[271.016]. yadā rājā aśokaḥ kālagataḥ, aśrāddho rājā rājyaṃ pratiṣṭhitaḥ/
[271.016]. tāni ratnānyadattādāyikairhṛtāni/
[271.017]. pāṃśukāṣṭaṃ cāvaśiṣṭam/
[271.017]. atra janakāyo gatvā viśīrṇaṃ dṛṣṭvā śocitumārabdhaḥ/
[271.018]. tasmiṃśca samaye'nyatamaśca śreṣṭhiputraḥ/
[271.018]. tenokrah--kimarthaṃ rudyata iti? tairabhihitam--krakucchandasya samyaksambuddhasya stūpaṃ catūratnamayamāsīt, sa idānīṃ viśīrṇa iti/
[271.020]. tatastena ca tatra krakucchandasya samyaksambuddhasya kāyapramāṇikā pratimā babhūva viśīrṇā, abhisaṃskṛtā, samyakpraṇidhānaṃ ca kṛtam--yādṛśaḥ krakucchandaḥ śāstā, īdṛśameva śāstāramārāgayeyaṃ virāgayeyamiti//
[271.023]. kiṃ manyadhvamāyuṣmantah? yo'sau śreṣṭhiputraḥ, sa eṣa kuṇālaḥ/
[271.023]. yatrānena krakucchandasya stūpamabhisaṃskṛtam, tasya karmaṇo vipākenoccakule upapannaḥ/
[271.024]. yatpratimā abhisaṃskṛtā, tena karmaṇo vipākena kuṇākaḥ prāsādikaḥ samṛttaḥ/
[271.025]. yat praṇidhānaṃ kṛtam, tasya karmaṇo vipākena kuṇālena śākyamuniḥ samyaksambuddhastādṛśa eva śāstā samārāgito na virāgitaḥ, satyadarśanaṃ ca kṛtam//

[271.028]. iti śrīdivyāvadāne kuṇālāvadānaṃ saptaviṃśatimaṃ samāptam//
