The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.3.1

श्रीराम उवाच ।
अवेदनं वेदनस्य मुनीन्द्र क्रियते कथम् ।
नासतो विद्यते भावो नाभावो विद्यते सतः ॥ १ ॥

śrīrāma uvāca |
avedanaṃ vedanasya munīndra kriyate katham |
nāsato vidyate bhāvo nābhāvo vidyate sataḥ || 1 ||

Rama said:—Tell me, O Sage, how it may be possible to convert our knowledge to ignorance, since it is impossible to make a nothing of something, as also to make anything out of a nothing.
