The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.38.3

चेष्टावशात्तादृक्फलभोक्तृत्वं वासनानुरूपं स्पन्दते पुरुषः स्पन्दानुरूपं फलमनुभवति ।
फलभोक्तृत्वं नाम कर्तृत्वादिति सिद्धान्तः ॥ ३ ॥

ceṣṭāvaśāttādṛkphalabhoktṛtvaṃ vāsanānurūpaṃ spandate puruṣaḥ spandānurūpaṃ phalamanubhavati |
phalabhoktṛtvaṃ nāma kartṛtvāditi siddhāntaḥ || 3 ||

The production of an act by appliance of the proper means, and the exertion and action of the body in conformity with one's ability, and the completion of the effect compatible with one's intention, together with the enjoyment of the result of such agency, are defined and determined as the action of the man.
