The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 3.82.40

रक्षोन्नमेव संतुष्ट्यै न सामान्यजनाशनम् ।
पूर्वसिद्धस्वभावोऽयमादेहं न निवर्तते ॥ ४० ॥

rakṣonnameva saṃtuṣṭyai na sāmānyajanāśanam |
pūrvasiddhasvabhāvo'yamādehaṃ na nivartate || 40 ||

It is the food of a giant (Rakshasa) alone, that can yield me satisfaction, and not the little morsel of petty mortals; this is the innate nature of our being, and can not be done away with as long as we carry with us our present bodies.
