The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

यथा ब्रह्म भवत्याशु जीवः कलनजीवितः ।
तथा जीवो भवत्याशु मनो मननवेदनात् ॥ ४३ ॥

yathā brahma bhavatyāśu jīvaḥ kalanajīvitaḥ |
tathā jīvo bhavatyāśu mano mananavedanāt || 43 ||

This living spirit was a development of brahma said:—the universal soul; it was holy and a commensurable and finite being, and having a personality of its own; it remained as an impersonal unreality in the essence of the self-existent God. Being separated afterwards from its source, it had a different appellation given to it.
