The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

धाराः पयोमुच इव शीकरा इव वारिधेः ।
कणास्तप्तायस इव कस्मान्निर्यान्ति जीवकाः ॥ १६ ॥

dhārāḥ payomuca iva śīkarā iva vāridheḥ |
kaṇāstaptāyasa iva kasmānniryānti jīvakāḥ || 16 ||

Are these living souls like showers of rain-water falling from above, or as the drizzling drops of waves in the vast ocean of creation, or as the sparks of fire struck out of a red-hot iron, and from whence they flow, and by whom they are emitted.
