223,437 words | ISBN-10: 8171101519

The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 1.1.15

न धनेन भवेन्मोक्षः कर्मणा प्रजया न वा ।
त्यागमात्रेण किंत्वेके यतयोऽश्नन्ति चामृतम् ॥ १५ ॥

na dhanena bhavenmokṣaḥ karmaṇā prajayā na vā |
tyāgamātreṇa kiṃtveke yatayo'śnanti cāmṛtam || 15 ||

But it is neither by acts or riches, nor by means of progeny, that one obtains his liberation, it is solely by self-denial that Stoics taste the ambrosia.
