Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. शक्तितो ब्राह्मणान्वन्द्याञ्शिक्षितुं प्रयतामहे ।
तद्वै वित्तं मातिदेवीर्मा जैषीः शकुने परम् ॥ ९ ॥

śaktito brāhmaṇānvandyāñśikṣituṃ prayatāmahe |
tadvai vittaṃ mātidevīrmā jaiṣīḥ śakune param || 9 ||
