Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. न हि तेन मृगो विद्धो जीवन्गच्छति वै वनम् ।
पूर्वरूपं तु तन्नूनमासीत्स्वर्गगतिं प्रति ।
परिक्षितस्तस्य राज्ञो विद्धो यन्नष्टवान्मृगः ॥ १३ ॥

na hi tena mṛgo viddho jīvangacchati vai vanam |
pūrvarūpaṃ tu tannūnamāsītsvargagatiṃ prati |
parikṣitastasya rājño viddho yannaṣṭavānmṛgaḥ || 13 ||
