Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तत आश्रमवासाक्यं पर्व पञ्चदशं स्मृतम् ।
यत्र राज्यं परित्यज्य गान्धारीसहितो नृपः ।
धृतराष्ट्राश्रमपदं विदुरश्च जगाम ह ॥ २१२ ॥
