Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

यदा द्रोणो विविधानस्त्रमार्गान्विदर्शयन्समरे चित्रयोधी ।
न पाण्डवाञ्श्रेष्ठतमान्निहन्ति तदा नाशंसे विजयाय संजय ॥ १३० ॥

yadā droṇo vividhānastramārgānvidarśayansamare citrayodhī |
na pāṇḍavāñśreṣṭhatamānnihanti tadā nāśaṃse vijayāya saṃjaya || 130 ||
