Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. यदाश्रौषं हृतराज्यं युधिष्ठिरं पराजितं सौबलेनाक्षवत्याम् ।
अन्वागतं भ्रातृभिरप्रमेयैस्तदा नाशंसे विजयाय संजय ॥ १०५ ॥

yadāśrauṣaṃ hṛtarājyaṃ yudhiṣṭhiraṃ parājitaṃ saubalenākṣavatyām |
anvāgataṃ bhrātṛbhiraprameyaistadā nāśaṃse vijayāya saṃjaya || 105 ||
