Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

वृत्ताः स्थूला रजतस्तम्भवर्णा दंष्ट्राश्चतस्रो द्वे शते योजनानाम् ।
स त्वां दन्तान्विदशन्नभ्यधावज्जिघांसया शूलमुद्यम्य घोरम् ॥ ३५ ॥

vṛttāḥ sthūlā rajatastambhavarṇā daṃṣṭrāścatasro dve śate yojanānām |
sa tvāṃ dantānvidaśannabhyadhāvajjighāṃsayā śūlamudyamya ghoram || 35 ||
