Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. प्रमोदने श्वापदपक्षिरक्षसां जनक्षये वर्तति तत्र दारुणे ।
महाबलास्ते कुपिताः परस्परं निषूदयन्तः प्रविचेरुरोजसा ॥ ७६ ॥

pramodane śvāpadapakṣirakṣasāṃ janakṣaye vartati tatra dāruṇe |
mahābalāste kupitāḥ parasparaṃ niṣūdayantaḥ pravicerurojasā || 76 ||
