The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 13.53

मृगा गजाश्चार्त्तरवान् सृजन्तो विदुद्रुवुश्चैव निलिल्यिरे च ।
रात्रौ च तस्यामहनीव दिग्भ्यः खगा रुवन्तः परिपेतुरार्त्ताः ॥ ५३ ॥

mṛgā gajāścārttaravān sṛjanto vidudruvuścaiva nililyire ca |
rātrau ca tasyāmahanīva digbhyaḥ khagā ruvantaḥ paripeturārttāḥ || 53 ||

Deer and elephants uttering cries of pain ran about or lay down,—in that night as if it were day screaming birds flew around disturbed in all directions.
