This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.435

शोकं च शोकवैराग्यां न सो जातु निगच्छति ।
पट्टदामं ददित्वान पुष्पं च लोकनायके ॥ ४३५ ॥

śokaṃ ca śokavairāgyāṃ na so jātu nigacchati |
paṭṭadāmaṃ daditvāna puṣpaṃ ca lokanāyake || 435 ||

He who has given the Guide of the world a festoon of fine silk and flowers, does not experience grief and the sting of grief. (435)
