by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 64.238

जालेहि चित्रेण हि दक्षिणेन पराहने वसुमतिं बोधिसत्वो ।
सा षड्विकारं चलिता लोकधातु शब्दं च आसी तद भीष्मरूपं ॥ २३८ ॥

jālehi citreṇa hi dakṣiṇena parāhane vasumatiṃ bodhisatvo |
sā ṣaḍvikāraṃ calitā lokadhātu śabdaṃ ca āsī tada bhīṣmarūpaṃ || 238 ||

Then the Bodhisattva with his bright and webbed right hand struck the ground. The whole world quaked six times and there was a fearful roar. (238)
