This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 46.9

राज्यं राजपरिदेववीक्षणकालेन तन् ददा सर्वं ।
अपविज्झियान प्रक्रमि अधौतमलिनं पटं गृह्य ॥ ९ ॥

rājyaṃ rājaparidevavīkṣaṇakālena tan dadā sarvaṃ |
apavijjhiyāna prakrami adhautamalinaṃ paṭaṃ gṛhya || 9 ||

When he observed the king’s lamentation then did he renounce everything, and set out wearing garments that were unwashed and soiled. (9)
