This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 40.8

नित्युत्थितं सदा किलान्तं शकटेहि लांगलेहि च ।
नो तादृशं पतिम् इच्छे मनुष्ये यदि भवेल् लोके ॥ ८ ॥

nityutthitaṃ sadā kilāntaṃ śakaṭehi lāṃgalehi ca |
no tādṛśaṃ patim icche manuṣye yadi bhavel loke || 8 ||

“I would not choose for mate one who is continually busy with ploughs and carts and always tired out, since he would live in the world of men.” (8)
