This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 23.56

तेन कुशलेन भगवं इदं मे आरोपितं मनुष्यत्वं ।
सुचरितफलेन तेन धर्मरुचीति मम समाज्ञा ॥ ५६ ॥

tena kuśalena bhagavaṃ idaṃ me āropitaṃ manuṣyatvaṃ |
sucaritaphalena tena dharmarucīti mama samājñā || 56 ||

“Lord, it was through this meritorious act of mine that I won my present human state. It. was as the fruit of this good conduct that I came to be called Dharmaruci. (56)
