by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 23.15

समनन्तरं च भगवां दक्षिणम् एव चरणं कनककमलं ।
परिहरति इन्द्रकीले तत्र भवति अद्भुतो घोषो ॥ १५ ॥

samanantaraṃ ca bhagavāṃ dakṣiṇam eva caraṇaṃ kanakakamalaṃ |
pariharati indrakīle tatra bhavati adbhuto ghoṣo || 15 ||

And as soon as the Exalted One puts his golden-sandalled right foot down by Indra’s column there arises a marvellous noise. (15)
