The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.173.4

पादपस्य यथा पत्रे पत्रतायां यथाग्रहः ।
सर्वात्मनस्तथा वृक्षे वृक्षतायां तथाग्रहः ॥ ४ ॥

pādapasya yathā patre patratāyāṃ yathāgrahaḥ |
sarvātmanastathā vṛkṣe vṛkṣatāyāṃ tathāgrahaḥ || 4 ||

As the leaf of a tree is considered only as a leaf or part of the tree, so the universal soul residing in the tree (as vegetable life), passes under the designation of a tree only.
