The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 7.50.3

घनजाग्रत्स्थिताश्चान्ये जाग्रत्स्वप्नास्तथेतरे ।
क्षीणजागरकाः केचिज्जीवाः सप्तविधाः स्मृताः ॥ ३ ॥

ghanajāgratsthitāścānye jāgratsvapnāstathetare |
kṣīṇajāgarakāḥ kecijjīvāḥ saptavidhāḥ smṛtāḥ || 3 ||

Many are found to be strictly wakeful, and many also as waking sleepers both by day and night; there be some animals that are slightly wakeful, and these constitute the seven classes of living beings.
