Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. महदुक्थ्यं गीयते साम चाग्र्यं सम्यक्सोमः पीयते चात्र सत्रे ।
शुचीन्भागान्प्रतिजगृहुश्च हृष्टाः साक्षाद्देवा जनकस्येह यज्ञे ॥ ३६ ॥

mahadukthyaṃ gīyate sāma cāgryaṃ samyaksomaḥ pīyate cātra satre |
śucīnbhāgānpratijagṛhuśca hṛṣṭāḥ sākṣāddevā janakasyeha yajñe || 36 ||
