Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अथापश्यं स्थितं स्थाणुं भगवन्तं महेश्वरम् ।
सौरभेयगतं सौम्यं विधूममिव पावकम् ।
सहितं चारुसर्वाङ्ग्या पार्वत्या परमेश्वरम् ॥ ११५ ॥
