The Buddha Carita (Saddharma-pundarika) by Asvaghosa a famous Sanskrit text revolving around the live and exploits of the Buddha. The Buddha Carita (Buddhacarita) is written in the style of a Kavya (or Mahakavya, epic poetry) and extant original Sanskrit text consists of roughly 1,000 metrical verses.

Verse 9.44

नूनं च बुद्धिस्तव नातिसूक्ष्मा धर्मार्थकामेष्वविचक्षणा वा ।
हेतोरदृष्टस्य फलस्य यस्त्वं प्रत्यक्षमर्थं परिभूय यासि ॥ ४४ ॥

nūnaṃ ca buddhistava nātisūkṣmā dharmārthakāmeṣvavicakṣaṇā vā |
hetoradṛṣṭasya phalasya yastvaṃ pratyakṣamarthaṃ paribhūya yāsi || 44 ||

'Surely thy mind is not very penetrating, or it is ill-skilled in examining duty, wealth, and pleasure,—when for the sake of an unseen result thou departest disregarding a visible end.
