by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 112.63

आमन्त्रेमि भवन् तव प्रव्रज्या मम रोचति ।
अहं काको व दुर्मेधो मा कामानां वशम् अन्वगा ॥ ६३ ॥

āmantremi bhavan tava pravrajyā mama rocati |
ahaṃ kāko va durmedho mā kāmānāṃ vaśam anvagā || 63 ||

I tell you, sir, the religious life appeals to me, lest like the witless crow I become a slave of my desires. (63)
