Mahavastu [sanskrit verses and english]

by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 112.50

ते तां च अवगाहन्ति तत्र क्षारोदकां नदीं ।
तेषां च अङ्गमङ्गानि वर्धिता प्रतिविध्यति ॥ ५० ॥

te tāṃ ca avagāhanti tatra kṣārodakāṃ nadīṃ |
teṣāṃ ca aṅgamaṅgāni vardhitā pratividhyati || 50 ||

Then they dive into that river with its caustic water, which pierces their mangled limbs. (50)
