by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 75.6

तस्मिं विकीर्यमाणे रवन्ति आर्त्तस्वरा उदधिमध्ये ।
देवां च नमस्यन्ति यो यादृश अस्ति अधिमुक्तो ॥ ६ ॥

tasmiṃ vikīryamāṇe ravanti ārttasvarā udadhimadhye |
devāṃ ca namasyanti yo yādṛśa asti adhimukto || 6 ||

There amid the waste of waters they cried out with anguished voices, calling upon the devas, each one upon the deva he believed in. (6)
