This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 55.19

युद्धाय प्रतियास्यामि नाहं स्थानार्थम् उपाविशे ।
ताम् अहं निवर्तिष्यामि सेनां ते अनुपूर्वसः ॥ १९ ॥

yuddhāya pratiyāsyāmi nāhaṃ sthānārtham upāviśe |
tām ahaṃ nivartiṣyāmi senāṃ te anupūrvasaḥ || 19 ||

“(And I said), I shall advance to the fight; I shall not retreat to manoeuvre for position. By and by I will repel this host. (19)
