This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.42

एवं च ते महायश प्रतिश्रुणिष्यामि तं मे पत्तीय ।
सत्यं हि जीवलोके प्रतिष्ठितं एष परमार्थं ॥ ४२ ॥

evaṃ ca te mahāyaśa pratiśruṇiṣyāmi taṃ me pattīya |
satyaṃ hi jīvaloke pratiṣṭhitaṃ eṣa paramārthaṃ || 42 ||

“So, O glorious one, I make you a promise, and do you believe me. For truth, when it is established in this world of life, is the highest good. (42)
